Ernest William Williams was born on 6th May 1875 in Mildenhall, (Mildenhall Q2-1875 4A:578) son of William Edward and Emily Elizabeth WILLIAMS (née ??). 1881 census...Aged 5, he was at King's Street, Mildenhall with his father William Edward WILLIAMS [31] grocer's assistant, born Haverhill; his mother Emily Elizabeth [30]; brothers Frank C [4], Herbert P [2] and Walter F. [6 months]. All except his father were born in Mildenhall. 1891 census...Aged 15, a grocer's assistant, he was at St Andrew's Street, Mildenhall with his parents (father now a grocer); brothers Frank, Herbert, Walter, Harry R.[7] and Richard [4] and sister Florence G [2]. The new siblings all born in Mildenhall. Seems to be the grocer, living in Colchester, Essex, giving his age as 23yrs, who on 30th August 1896, in Christ's Church, Barnet, married Clara THRUSSELL, aged 27. I say 'seems to be' since the ages vary from census to census so I am not 101% sure. 1901 census...Aged 25, a grocer's assistant he was at Church Yard, Mildenhall with his wife Clara [27] born Preston, Hertfordshire and their daughter Dorrie E [2] and son Victor R. [6 months] both born in Mildenhall, and Ernest's brother Frank E (grocer's assistant] 1911 census...Aged 35, grocer's assistant, he was at Regent's Street, Mildenhall with his wife Clara [39], daughter Dorothy, son Redvers [Victor R], and daughter Cissie [8] born Cambridge. On 8th October 1894 at Cavenham, being in the Militia ( 2nd Volunteer Battalion, Suffolk Regiment) he attested for the 11th Hussars. He gave his place of
birth as Mildenhall, occupation -Grocer, aged 19 years 5 months. He was 5 feet 7.5 inches (171.5 cm)tall, weighed 130 lbs (59.2 kg)
, chest 34.5" to 37" (87.6 to 94 cm), hazel eyes, brown hair
and Church of England. Posted to 11th Hussars (No.3919) at Canterbury on 20th October, he was discharged on 6th
November 1894, a military service of 30 days. Unsure what "Claim £10" signifies.
Canadian Archives : RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 10385 - 40 Attested 8th September 1915. Address 1451 Bruce Street, Regina, Saskatchewan, next of kin his wife Clara. Had served in 95th Regina for 6 months. Aged 40 years 3 months, he was 5 feet 7.5 inches (171.5 cm) tall, chest 35" to 38" (88.9 to 96.5 cm), hazel eyes,brown hair, religion Church of England. Unfortunately the circumstance of death cards for all after SIMS have been lost,but luckily he is recorded elsewhere. from Saskatchewan Virtual War Memorial "301617 Gunner (3rd Division Ammunition Column, Canadian Field Artillery driver) Ernest William Williams (b.1875) of Regina died 19181105 at Ontario Hospital, Orpington, Kent, England, of pneumonia and is buried at Mildenhall cemetery, Suffolk. Williams served at the front for over two years and ironically took ill while on leave in England. He was the son of William Edward and Emily Williams of Mildenhall.
